Never Give Up

I guess I have always been a dreamer. Even as a little kid, my optimism was my guiding light. To prove my point, after watching Superman with my little brother Jerry, the original one on black and white TV. We saw Superman grab a piece of coal in his hand, squeezing it with such pressure. He turned the piece of coal into a diamond.

That started me thinking and dreaming. We had a huge rock in our backyard I could not move by myself. I felt sure if I could get a piece of coal underneath that rock, that would be enough pressure. I would have me a diamond in no time at all. I figured two weeks, I am in forth grade.

Well, with Jerry’s help, a length of 2×4, and a smaller rock as a fulcrum, we were able to prop up the rock and place a piece of coal from the pile delivered to the coal burning furnace, under said rock.

I felt I had everything going for me. I had hard work, a plan, and a dream. It wasn’t easy getting that piece of coal under that rock. Even though the consensus was , I was only dreaming, it gave me such confidence I went out and got a newspaper delivery job like my big brother Jim. Along with my night crawler and lawn mowing business I had it going on. I was on a roll.

And as we all know the outcome of my diamond venture, I loved the way the dream made me feel. I took the disappointment all in stride and concluded at the time, I just needed a bigger rock, or perhaps a little more time. I left the piece of coal under that rock and checked on it from time to time. Figuratively speaking, you never know until you you try.

Surprisingly, I became a jeweler and diamond setter at 18 training on the job. What are the odds? Since then, I have chased and found treasures and dreams from around the world. Emeralds, pearls, and gold. I have made a lot of money and been broke losing everything many times. I know which one I prefer. I also have had every kind of job you can imagine, just to make ends meet.

Now, after a lifetime of wins and losses I’m 69. I am a published writer. narrating my stories with great enthusiasm. My adventurous spirit and optimism embellished in all my fictional stories. To date I have 3 stories available on Amazon, Kindle, and every Audio retailer available, as well as 10 countries, including Japan. I’m still a dreamer and will never give up.
